Erínias - Erinyes

"Dante's gaze has drifted up one of Dis’s towers, to take in a horrible sight: three blood-spattered women hanging pell-mell from the turrets. And they have snakes as hair.
Following his gaze, Virgil reacts with disgust, identifying the terrifying trio as the Furies. He names each one for Dante’s benefit: Megaera, Allecto, and Tisiphone."

As Erínias (Fúrias para os romanos) são personificações da vingança. Vivem nas profundezas do Hades, onde torturam as almas pecadoras julgadas por Hades e Perséfone. Nasceram das gotas do sangue que caíram sobre Gaia (Terra) quando o deus Urano (Céu) foi castrado por Cronos ( Saturno).

As Erínias, deusas encarregadas de castigar os crimes, especialmente os delitos de sangue, são também chamadas Eumênides, que em grego significa as bondosas ou as Benevolentes, eufemismo usado para evitar pronunciar o seu verdadeiro nome, por medo de atrair sobre si a sua cólera.

Seu número fixa-se geralmente em três, que encarregam-se da vingança e habitam, segundo as versões, o Erebo ou o Tártaro, onde descansam até que são de novo reclamadas na Terra. Os seus nomes são:

Alecto, eternamente encolerizada. Encarrega-se de castigar os delitos morais como a ira, a cólera, a soberba, etc. Alecto é a Erínia que espalha pestes e maldições.Seguia o infrator sem parar, ameaçando-o com fachos acesos, não o deixando dormir em paz

Megera, que personifica o rancor, a inveja, a cobiça e o ciúme. Castiga principalmente os delitos contra o matrimonio, em especial a infidelidade. É a Erínia que persegue com a maior sanha, fazendo a vítima fugir eternamente, grita ininterruptamente nos ouvidos do criminoso, lembrando-lhe das faltas que cometera.
Tisífone, a vingadora dos assassinatos. É a Erínia que açoita os culpados e enlouquece-os.

São forças primitivas da natureza que atuam como vingadoras do crime, reclamando com insistência o sangue parental derramado, só se satisfazendo com a morte violenta do homicida. Porém, posto que o castigo final dos crimes é um poder que não corresponde aos homens (por mais horríveis que sejam), estas três irmãs se encarregam do castigo dos criminosos, perseguindo-os incansavelmente até mesmo no mundo dos mortos, pois seu campo de ação não tem limites.

As Erínias são convocadas pela maldição lançada por alguém que clama vingança. São deusas justas, porém implacáveis, e não se deixam abrandar por sacrifício nem suplício de nenhum tipo. Não levam em conta atenuantes e castigam toda ofensa contra a sociedade e a natureza, como por exemplo, o perjúrio, a violação dos rituais de hospitalidade e, sobretudo, os assassinatos e crimes contra a família. Exprimem a idéia fundamental do espirito grego, segundo a qual a ordem deve ser preservada contra as forças desintegradoras. Protetoras da ordem social , vingavam toda falta capaz de colocá-la em risco.

As Erínias são representadas como mulheres aladas de aspecto terrível, com olhos que escorrem sangue no lugar de lágrimas e madeixas trançadas de serpentes, estando muitas vezes acompanhadas por muitos destes animais.Aparecem sempre empunhando chicote e tochas acesas, correndo atrás dos infratores dos preceitos morais.

The Erinyes are female chthonic deities of vengence, equivalent to the Furies or Dirae in Roman mitology. They live in the depths of Hades, where they torture the sinful souls judged by Hades and Persephone. 

They born of the drops of blood that fell on Gaia (Earth) when the God Uranus (Sky) was castrated by Chronos (Saturn) his son.

The Furies punish those responsible for crimes of blood and they're also called Eumenides, whith in Greek means "The kind ones" or "Benevolents", euphemism  for avoid pronounce theirs real name for fear to attracting up hers anger.

Their number are generally fixed at three, who are in charge of revenge and lived in Erebus and Tartarus, where they rest until they are claimed back on earth. Their names are: 

Allecto, eternally angered. Undertakes to punish moral offences such as wrath, anger, pride, etc...She spreads plagues and curses. Followed the offender without stopping, thretening him with torches, not letting him sleep in pease.

Megaera, the personification of rancor,envy, greed and jealousy. Mainly punishes offences against married, particularly infidelity. Chasing with the greatest fury, causing the victim to run away forever, cries continuosly in the ears of the criminal, reminding him of the faults he committed. 
Tsiphone, the avenger of murder. Is who whips the guiltys and mad them. 

Are primal forces of nature that act as avengers of crime, demanding with insistence the parental blood spilled, only fulfilled with the violent death of the murderer. However, since the final punishment of crimes is not a power that belongs to men (as horrible they are), these three sisters are in charge of punishment of criminals, chasing them tirelessly even in the world of undead, because for then are no limits. 

The Erinyes are convened by the curse cast by someone who cries revenge. Goddesses are fair but relentless, and not let soften for sacrifice or entreaty of any kind.  Don't take note any attenuation and punish every offense against society and nature, such as perjury, violation of the rites of hospitality, and especially the murder and crimes against the family.

Express the fundamental idea of the Greek spirit, according to the order must be preserved against the disintegrating forces. Protectors of the social order, avenged every fault able to put it at risk.
The Erinyes are depicted as winged women of terrible aspect, with eyes that flow blood instead of tears and braided tresses of snakes, and is often accompanied by many of these animals. Always appers wielding whip and torches, chasing the offenders of moral precepts.
